Job Title : Product Management Assistant

Makita Canada Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for an entry level Product Management Assistant position.  Reporting directly to the Product Manager, the Product Management Assistant is responsible for assisting with product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle. This will include assisting with market research and data compilation, gathering and defining end user requirements as related to new product development, and working cross-functionally with R&D, sales, operations, marketing, purchasing and customer service to ensure company goals are achieved. 

This position is based out of Makita Canada’s Head Office in Whitby, ON, Canada.

The Product Management Assistant will be expected to:

  • Assist with market research and competitive product testing
  • Compile and analyze market data
  • Support sales by assisting with a variety of tasks such as product training, sales presentations, product line reviews, trade shows, communications materials, etc.
  • Visit and work with end users to gather market information and conduct product testing
  • Help to launch new products and sales programs to sales team
  • Provide support across the entire Makita product range, including power tools (electric/cordless), outdoor power equipment, cleaning solutions, dust extraction and accessories
  • Manage online social media accounts (e.g. Instagram), including daily postings, product photos (creation, participation, etc.), contests and follower interaction
  • Upload and maintain website information on new and existing product lines
  • Utilize online translation service to translate materials from English to French
  • Prioritize between projects on various topics
  • Understand market trends and competitive landscapes 
  • Act independently without constant supervision
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Experience and knowledge:

  1. Basic knowledge of power tools or construction/building trades and sales or marketing
  2. Post-secondary (university or college) degree (marketing, business or building trades preferred)
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Photoshop                 
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication and personal presentation skills
  5. Must be able and willing to travel domestically and/or internationally if required
  6. Valid G Class Driver’s License (Driver’s abstract to be provided)
  7. Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, but is not required

  • Effectively coordinate relevant sales and sales promotions activities in both French and English. 
  • Provide fast and efficient account service and give feedback covering all aspects of our business (again, in both official languages). 
  • Communicate and share pricing programs, promotional plans and other pertinent competitor / dealer information with Regional Manager, head office, and other departments as necessary.

Self-motivated and aggressive by nature with an ability to achieve sales objectives with minimum supervision, you have the following training and skill sets:

  • 3 to 5 years’ industrial and/or retail sales experience with power tools or related products.
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written in French and English.

Job Title : Category Sales Specialist – Outdoor Power Equipment

Based in the Lower Mainland of BC and operating out of our Richmond BC Regional Office, we are currently looking for an experienced Outdoor Power Equipment Sales Specialist to join our Western Canada (BC, AB, SK & MB) sales team.  Reporting to the Western Regional Manager – Sales & Service, the OPE Category Sales Specialist will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting Makita Canada to grow revenue and market share of the outdoor power equipment product category with a specific focus on cordless outdoor power equipment.
  • Aggressively seeking out and executing sales and conversion opportunities with professional end users and outdoor power equipment dealers to increase sales and market presence of Makita OPE products.
  • With a focus on opportunities in British Columbia, this position will also involve travel to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
  • Serving as a “sales hunter” and Makita Canada’s “OPE category expert” in western Canada by supporting regional sales and service teams in their efforts to identify and generate sales and product demand through:
    • Daily interaction and communication with professional and targeted end users.
    • Frequent and consistent joint calls with dealer reps and Makita reps.
    • Continuous product training of dealer reps as well as Makita’s sales and service teams.
    • Participating in events and meetings in the regions and territories in support of targeted product sales
  • Participation in industry shows and networking events (with a focus in western Canada).
  • Assisting with product testing of the applicable new Makita and competitor’s products available to the Canadian market.
  • Conducting ongoing and strategic competitive and market research related to the outdoor power equipment product category.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally you will have 2-5 years of Outdoor Power Equipment sales experience.
  • You will need strong interpersonal skills that allow you to interact successfully with a wide variety of end users and customers.
  • A degree, diploma or other post-secondary training would be an asset.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office are required.
  • The Category Sales Specialist – Outdoor Power Equipment is required to keep accurate records of call activities and sales successes related to target products, brand conversions and sales calls.
