The Manager, Finance & Accounting provides strategic and operational leadership across all financial functions of the organization. This role oversees the full spectrum of accounting and finance activities, with particular emphasis on accounts receivable and credit management, budgeting, cash flow, forecasting, financial reporting, taxation, audit management (internal, SOX, and external), foreign exchange, banking operations, and accounts payable. The Manager ensures strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and effective support to the senior leadership.

What will you work on?

Leadership & Team Management

  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate Accounting Assistants and General Accountants, providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen expense control.

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee and coordinate all financial operations for the Company.
  • Prepare and submit financial information to headquarters, including Diva submissions and ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Provide financial reports and insights to the President to support comprehensive budget development.
  • Develop clear, effective methods for presenting financial data to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure the Finance Department adheres to established accounting practices and remains current with evolving standards.

Accounts Receivable, Credit & Cash Flow

  • Lead all accounts receivable functions, including collections, credit management, order review, credit application approvals, financial statement analysis, and bad debt provisioning.
  • Manage all accounts receivable insurance processes, including limit reviews, information submissions, negotiations, and claims.
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with customers, vendors, and sales teams regarding credit, orders, financial issues, and inquiries.
  • Negotiate accounts receivable insurance premiums, banking fees, credit report contracts, and audit-related expenses.

Banking, FX & Risk Management

  • Manage company bank accounts, including incoming funds, outgoing payments (cheques and wires), payment scheduling, and foreign currency purchases.
  • Serve as an online banking approver.
  • Monitor economic indicators, banking updates, and currency bulletins to guide FX decisions.
  • Review industry and credit publications to identify emerging risks affecting customers or the broader market.

Compliance, Audit & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and contribute to SOX policy development and reporting.
  • Lead SOX, government, MJ, and KPMG internal audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Support investigations into suspected fraud and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Safeguard confidential information and uphold the organization’s integrity.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide financial insights and support to other departments as required.
  • Collaborate with the order desk to resolve customer disputes and deliver training on payment terms and held-order processes.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

To be successful you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • CPA designation (or active progress toward CPA).
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of accounting experience, including at least five (5) years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills; French proficiency is an asset.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), AS400, and data entry.
  • Strong knowledge of bankruptcy regulations, debtor-creditor litigation, and credit/bank report analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SOX, IFRS, ASPE, and US GAAP.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, delegate, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and manage difficult situations professionally.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and ability to perform complex calculations accurately.

Salary

  • $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
